A JOB! A JOB! I HAVE A JOB!!!!!

After over a year of trying to get a job, I was finalLy blessed with the opportunity! A local staffing agency had an opening for a temp to perm Office Assistant position at a company in Waterville, Ohio. And even though i would have liked to have gotten hired on at Owens full time perminant after being here for 8 months, they "couldn't find the funds" to do so.
(in order to protect names, D. is the name of the temp lady i have been working with recently)
So i had the first interview scheduled for October 13th. I emailed D. at the the temp agency to see if i could get some additional information about the company i would be interviewing with, to give me whatever edge i had been missing out on with the previous 15 interviews!!!! When i got the email back the morning of the interview, D. said that they had filled the position and so my interview for that afternoon had been canclled..... i was kinda dissapointed (as my status message on facebook said.... WHEN IS IT MY TURN?!?!?!)
I was in the process of looking online for other positions that morning and had gotten an email back about a resume i submited for a position on craigslist.com. i had started the registration process with this company (turned out to be another local temp agency) when i got an email back from D. stating that the interview for that afternoon was back on and wanted to know if i could still make my 4pm time. i said yes and went about my day. I got a message from good friend of mine stating "You're going to nail the interview and get the job. You are so talented."(Thanks for the encouragement Mike!) Part of my response to this was "I wish I had your confidence in this.... I have had about 5-6 interviews (including todays) within the last 7 weeks. and nothing comes of them. so hopefuly this one works out. but i think i am learning not to get my hopes up too much."
3:30 PM comes along, and i had printed out directions to where the interview was days before. i had planned on driving it over the weekend so that i knew where it was. i currently dont get off work till 3:30. With the interview at 4:00 pm and with a 23 minute drive from Owens to my interview, i didnt want to get lost.... well i ended up forgetting to take that drive over the weekend, and took my first drive out there for the interview. needless to say, i got lost. i got off the exit and forgot to start the tripometer over so i knew when i had traveled the required 6 miles till my turn.... i ended up going about 6 miles past where i was suposed to turn (in my defense, the street sign is about 3 inches high and about 15 inches long.... not the easiest to see from the road.... as well as another road sign was a bit misleading and confusing.) i ended up calling my mom to have her help me get directions back to the road....
needless to say, i was late. i had been told that i would be interviewing with 2 people, but only one of them was there.... she seamed to be about my age, if not a bit older. i filled out an application (paper applications rarely leave enough space for big handwriting....) during the interview, i found out why the interview had gotten cancled and why it was back on.... aparantly, they had offered the position to someone and she accepted it. within 2 hours, this lady had talked it over with her fiancae and they had decided that it was not enough money and called back and un-accepted the position. hence why i finaly got my turn! so after a good interview, a few computer "tests" (type this letter and build a spreadsheet that looks like a check register), i was on my way out....
I went home and did whatever and went to bed. in the morning, i was planning on finding a specific pair of pants to wear to work that day, after spending too much time on the couch that morning watching The Early Show/local news and weather, i couldnt find the pants in time to make it to work on time. so i saw a skirt that i had hung up to dry a week or so before, put it on, found a shirt to go with it, put on my heals and left for work. while i was on my way to work, D. called. i didnt have my phone's ringger on, so i ended up checking my email after i got to work and there was an email from D. it said that the company i interviewed for the day before would like me to come in for a second interview with the person that wasnt there the first day. i cautiously accepted the second interview. i was caucious because i didnt have any of hte stuff with me that would help me look more presentable to go to the interview!
After emailing or calling my mom who works in the city i live in, it was determined that she didnt have a key to my townhouse and wouldnt be able to get in to get the stuff i needed.... i ended up sending the following text to my sister:
"sorry if this woke you up. i need you to do me a HUGE favor.... Had an interview yesterday. Found out after i got to work that they want a second interview today. But i dont have time to go home to get the jacket that will help what i am wearing look better. I will pay you gas and stuff if i can get you to come pick up the key from me and get hte white jacket from the closet.... Please...." Usualy she gets mad when i text her before noon as she is usualy sleeping. instead of being mad, she sent me back a message....
"K. getting dressed. i will call you when i am at owens."
not only did she leave the house earlier than she had planned on that day, she drove up here to get my key (aprox. 6 miles), back to my place (another 5-6 miles) to the exit, back to my hosue because i forgot to tell her i needed my makeup, back to owens to deliver the stuff (5-6 miles) and back to her house (6 miles) all together it was about a 30 mile endever.... and she did it all without being mad at me for the inconvienece. Christina, you are my hero!
I went to the second interview without getting lost this time! while i was meeting with this second lady, she pritty much offered me the job right then and there! i told her that i would need to talk it over with my parents and talk to D about it and that she should find out some time the next day. as excited as i was to have finaly be offered a job, i had the brains enough to wait to call my mom till after i got out of what i thought was their eyesight.
after lots of discussing, we determined that i would talk with my supervisor M. when i got to work the next day and lay it out on the table that i have had another job offer and although i would rather get hired on here at owens (better/less expensive to me benefits, familiarity, college tuition discount, etc.) i couldnt wait for them to hire me. it was either she hire me on or guarantee i would be hired on within X amount of time, or i would have to take this job. it was hard for me to just jump from something good and temporary to something not as good and temp to perm, but i cant pay bills with promisses. M said that they couldnt find the funds to make the position i hold full time perminant at this time. That sealed the deal. later on that day, i emailed D at the temp agency and formaly accepted the position. My last day at Owens is 10/24/08 and my first day of my new job at Thermeq (Don't ask me to pronounce it right till i have been there for a week! i can bairly spell it right!) on 10/27/08.... Happy Birthday present to Michelle!
